Does Insulation Matter?

By May 27, 2016 No Comments

Metal structures used to be little more than pole barns, good for storing livestock, feed, and other items not easily damaged by changing weather conditions. Now, metal structures are easily insulated against the summer heat and winter chill, making them suitable for homes, businesses, and storage applications. Unless you plan on using your building as little more than a tool shed, you’ll want to add insulation to your building.

Why It’s Important

Insulation is necessary to keep your metal building at a steady temperature, protecting the interior from the changing weather conditions outside the building. Good insulation will keep your heating and cooling costs lower and make the area more comfortable for you to work, play, or live in. However, insulation does more than increase the energy efficiency of your metal building.

Insulation against Sound Pollution

Insulation protects your building from distracting loud noises. If you’re using the building for a business office, keeping outside noise from entering the building is incredibly important. The last thing you want is to constantly be interrupted by the sounds of loud traffic.

If you work in an industrial trade and use the building for machine shop activities, insulation will keep the noise transfer outside the building to a minimum. This is necessary if your building is located near other businesses or residences.

The amount of insulation you need will depend on the purpose of your building as well as its location. A good rule of thumb is if you’re working in the building, or keeping livestock inside, high-quality insulation should be installed. If you’re using your building as a storage facility, you may be able to use less insulation to achieve the desired effect.
