Component Options for Your Structure

By June 6, 2017 No Comments

Once you have decided to purchase and build a steel structure, there are a lot of secondary decisions to be made. From the foundation of your building to the peaks of its roof, there are many different options available for various components. JAG Metals has more than 40 years of combined experience manufacturing engineered metal buildings and components, and we’d love to discuss the various options available for your structure. Today, we will take a look at a few of the components that are available for metal buildings.

Trim, Gutters, and Downspouts

Often referred to as flashing, trim is typically a light-gauge piece of steel used for decorative and/or weatherproofing purposes. It’s especially useful around door and window openings as well as areas where different material surfaces overlap to ensure that rain, snow, and other forms of moisture can’t seep in. Gutters and downspouts are also components for metal buildings that aid in diverting water away from doors and windows, carrying moisture away from the foundation of the structure. Trim, gutters, and downspouts are all very useful and necessary components to ensure your metal building is watertight.

Doors and Windows

Exterior doors are clearly necessary in order for you to enter and exit your steel building, but interior doors will also need to be considered if your interior space will be divided into rooms. While windows are not a necessary structural component for metal buildings, they can be a great way to add natural light to your space. When you have a metal structure, you don’t want to have just any old residential door or window. Consider custom, heavy-duty, door and window components that are properly manufactured to provide a perfect fit with the panel profile they are installed within.

Vents

As we discussed in a prior article, vents are a very important consideration for metal buildings. Without proper ventilation, you run the risk of condensation, poor airflow, and decreased energy efficiency. It can also be challenging to regulate the interior temperature without proper ventilation. There are many different kinds of vents to consider for your structure. Some are more advantageous for smaller or larger buildings, and many can be combined to promote cross-ventilation. The friendly staff at JAG Metals would be happy to discuss your specific building to see what will work best for you.

Canopies

Steel canopies can be attached to the metal siding of your structure to provide a decorative element and/or focal point over any doorway or window. In addition to being decorative, canopies also provide shelter from extreme weather conditions such as intense sunlight, rain, hail, sleet, and snow. Because they provide shelter from these elements, they can also be beneficial for energy efficiency and aid in regulating the interior temperature of metal buildings. Canopies may not be a necessary structural component of your building, but they certainly serve a purpose.

If you’re at the point of considering what kind of components to incorporate into the construction process of your steel structure, JAG Metals will gladly review your options with you. Every metal building project is unique, and we are more than happy to review which components will work well for your specific needs.
